This year the Australia’s Strongest Man & Woman competitions is being held at the 2017 Royal Melbourne Show featuring the strongest men & women in the country. Australia’s Strongest Man & Woman is an invitational event that sees the competitors battle it out to earn a ticket to the coveted Arnold Pro Strongman along with the title of Australia’s Strongest Man or Woman. The Australia’s Strongest Man competition this year is proudly sponsored by Johnny Bigg.
This years competition will see the competitors challenged over 8 gruelling events. From staple events such as pulling trucks, pressing giant logs overhead and lifting heavy stones to some less familiar events this year the athletes will be pushed to their limits in an effort to earn the title of Australia’s Strongest Man and Woman.
10:00am-11:30am- Event 1: The Super Yoke;
The super yoke is a traditional strongman competition event where the competitors must pick up a huge “yoke” frame on their shoulders and carry it 20m in the fastest time possible.
12:00pm-1:30pm- Event 2: The Log Lift;
The Log Lift is a staple event in strongman competition with the competitors lifting and pressing overhead a giant log with the weight increasing each time. The heaviest weight lifted will determine the winner.
2:00pm-3:30pm- Event 3 The Power Stairs;
In this event the competitors must lift three odd shaped objects of different weights and sizes up the set of stairs one in the fastest time possible.
4:00pm-5:30pm- Event 4 The Truck Pull;
A crowd favourite and sight to be seen. The athletes will pull a 12 tonne truck with only a harness and rope across the 20m course in the fastest time possible.
10:00am-11:30am- Event 5: The Overhead Medley
A unique and challenging event the athletes will be lifting and pressing overhead a series of different shaped and weighted objects of increasing difficulty. Implements include kegs, stones and assorted machinery pieces.
12:00pm-1:30pm- Event 6: The Fingal Finger
The event revolves around a series of hinged poles – or fingers – being lifted, starting from a horizontal resting position and flipped over to the other side. The aim is to complete as many repetitions on the giant steel finger as possible within the time limit.
2:00pm-3:30pm- Event 7: The Giant Frame Hold
The frame hold is all about grip strength and who has the strongest hands in the country. The giant frames are loaded with weight and must be lifted up from the ground and held with the athletes standing upright.
4:00pm-5:30pm- Event 8: The Atlas Stones
One of the most iconic strongman events the competitors must lift and load onto a platform 5 round stones made of concrete in increasing weight and size. The current Australian record stands at 200kg for men and and 132kg for the women and the athletes will have a chance to break these records here at this competition.
All competitors must be members of the Arnold Strongman Australia to compete at Arnold Strongman Australia Competitions
