The Arnold Pro Strongman is back bigger and better in 2017 with the addition of the pro world series format to featuring the worlds best strongman competing around the globe for the right to compete in the Arnold Pro Strongman World Championship at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio.
The Arnold Pro Strongman World Series features qualifying contests at Arnold Classic multi-sport festival in Australia, South America, Africa, Asia and Europe with the Australian competition being the first in the series. The Arnold Pro is also the ticket to the big time for strongmen in Australia & New Zealand with local athletes earning their place by qualifying at the biggest strongman events in the region including the Australia’s Strongest Man Competition and The Arnold Classic Australia Strongman Championships from the previous year. For the 2017 competition we have 3 representatives from the region competing. Colm Woulfe, Rongo Keene and Mathew Ragg will all have the chance to share the stage with 14 of the worlds best strongmen in front of local fans.
Event 1: 12pm- The Super Yoke
The athletes will take each on in a head to head race with a 500kg yoke on their back for the 15m course. The athletes will be racing the clock and each other to cover the distance in the fastest time possible.
Event 2: 2:30pm- The Log Press
The athletes will have a choice of 2 logs to choose from in this event with the Mad Max Log set to 190kg and the new Mini Max log at 170kg. Any number of reps on the heavier log will beat more reps on the lighter log so the athletes must choose which path they take to score maximum points for themselves.
Event 3: 5pm- The Frame Carry
The heavy frame carry will be contested head to head with each athlete required to carry the 380kg frame 15m up and 15m back down the course pushing the limits of their grip strength and conditioning. The athletes will be racing the clock and each other to cover the distance in the fastest time possible.
Event 4: 12pm- The Deadlift
The ultimate test of raw static strength. How much weight can 1 man lift from the floor. Max deadlift under strongman rules with a competition deadlift bar and competition lifting plates. The heaviest weight lifted wins and you can expect to see the majority of the field lift in excess of 400kg!
Event 5: 2:30pm- The Truck Pull
A true strongman classic event with a couple of surprise additions to make it more challenging for our athletes. The event is done indoors and will be over a 20m distance. Depending on the final weight of the truck the Arnold Strongman may add speed bumps of other obstacles for the truck to pulled over increasing the challenge for the athletes.
Event 6: 5pm- The Atlas Stones
The iconic strongman event and a crowd favourite. This event will be contested as a head to head battle loading the atlas stones to platforms of decreasing height and increasing weight. The platforms range from 1.5m to 1.2m and the stones from 150kg-220kg with the lightest stone being loaded to the highest platform and the heaviest to the lowest.
The 2017 Competition will take place in the Activity area in the main expo right in front of all the fans. The only exception to this is the final trophy presentation which will take place on the main stage of the Pro Bodybuilding show on the Saturday night with Arnold Schwarzenegger himself presenting the final trophy to the winner of the competition.
